Forwarding email from your domain
CIRR supports a very basic form of email forwarding for your domain.
It is called simple because it only supports a one to one mapping of email addresses from your domain to a recipient address. No multi-address expansion is provided.
The file containing your forwarding instructions is in the top level directory of your web service account. It is named
aliases, and is a simple ASCII (plain) text file.Comments are delimited by a leading # (hash) character.
All other lines are treated as email addresses. The left hand side is the address in your domain, and the right hand side is the address to which should receive the forwarded email. White space (spaces, tabs) should separate the fields.
On the left hand side, all the addresses should include your domain name. Don't forget to include the catch all line.
An example
aliasesfile is:# # $Id: Mailforwarding.html,v 1.3 2010/06/13 03:34:05 cirr Stable $ # email forwarding template/example # # to forward email for your domain, make entries like to the # following: (with out the leading hash mark/number sign/octothorpe) # # lines starting with a # sign are considered comments # everything from the # sign to the end of line is ignored. # # someone,othername are email addresses at your domain, # someone@aol.com, othername@msn.com, etc are address where # the mail is to be delivered. # # someone@yourdomain.com someone@aol.com # othername@yourdomain.com othername@msn.com # # catch all # @yourname.com error:550 User Unknown # # or # @yourname.com someone@earthlink.net # someone@yourdomain.com someone@aol.com othername@yourdomain.com othername@msn.com # catch all @yourname.com error:550 User UnknownTo update the aliases, the following steps are a good process:
