Getting "Forbidden" on pages
The most common reason for getting the Forbidden message from the web server is that the web server could not read the document file. This means it was not left as "group" and "other" readable when the file was uploaded. The directory modes should look like the following when viewed from your web client:
ftp> dir 229 Entering Extended Passive Mode (|||49756|) 150 Opening ASCII mode data connection for '/bin/ls'. total 80 -rw-r--r-- 1 cirr webc 1463 Aug 10 11:27 index.html 226 Transfer complete. ftp>The -rw-r--r-- string represents the file access modes, and there must be three (3) "r"s there. If there are not, use the
site chmodcommand in your ftp client to set the modes to0644ora+r,o+w.See the support page on uploading your site for more details.
