Next Month, VISTA, Volunteers in Service to America, will celebrate its 35th anniversary.
Big Deal, you say. Well, it's actually pretty impressive--particularly when you consider that VISTA was subjected to the likes of Ray Magliozzi, way back in 1968.
Taking a year off from MIT, Ray fully intended to change the world. Okay... who are we kidding? He wanted to meet a babe.
As it turned out, Ray went two for two. He was part of a VISTA group that did help change one small corner of the world. And, he met his future wife, Monique.
This October 12-14, Ray and Monique will be celebrating the 35th anniversary of VISTA, at a gala fete in Washington, D.C. If you, or someone you know was in VISTA, please make sure they know about the reunion. You can get complete information from the VISTA web site. Or, just e-mail them this feature, using the form below.
So, what was VISTA like, back in 1968? And, just what were Ray and Monique doing in San Antonio? Car Talk's staff oral historian, Studds Tercel, talked recently with Ray and Monique.
Let's walk down memory lane...
