Lake Big Fish,
also known as
Backyard Wildlife Habitat #16518,
is an oasis nestled in the
suburban sprawl of Plano, Texas.
Lake Big Fish is also a registered
Texas Wildscape Backyard Wildlife Habitat
(Texas Wildscape #712).
There is a pond (of course there is a pond, why do you think it's called
Lake Big Fish?), nesting sites for birds, an arbor with honeysuckle
and jasmine, and bright flowers to attract butterflies and honeybees.
Lake Big Fish was certified as a
Backyard Wildlife Habitat
by the National Wildlife Federation in August 1995.
It was certified as a
Texas Wildscape
by the Texas Parks and Wildlife Department
in August 1996.
These days Lake Big Fish has expanded to include not only the fish that live in the pond and the urban wildlife, but also the cats, dogs and domestic birds that reside in the surrounding environment. And (although this is a real stretch), the horses who wish they could live in Plano but who actually live in Princeton.
